I try to minimize surplus.

I work only as much as needed.
I don't spend up to what I earn,
and when a need arises, I work exactly as much as the need.

Without surplus, there can be instability.
Of course there's also instability that surplus brings, but setting that aside —
as an alternative to the instability of having no surplus,
you need various kinds of preparation.

The reason I go to all this trouble on my own is that
surplus ultimately benefits organizations and civilization,
but it does nothing at all for an individual's daily life.
