A book was recommended to me: Matchmakers.
I haven't read it yet. Interestingly, even after just glancing at the table of contents, I got the sense that it traces a similar arc to my previous post.
The Age of the Manager Is Over.
The age of the manager is over. There may be a lot of room for counter-argument. But there's nothing to be done about it. The mass market and prevailing corporate culture have started to recognize this detail. Of course, since they've only just started to, it isn't yet common knowledge...

In the previous post I remember rambling about mediators rather than managers.
Matchmakers | David S. Evans, Richard Schmalensee (translated by Lee Jin-won)
Preface
Matchmakers. Unlike traditional manufacturers, they don't buy raw materials, make products, and sell them to customers. They simply help people who want the same thing to come together. And what they sell is the "opportunity to make contact" between one group and another. The platform itself is the place where diverse groups can meet.
"Opportunities for contact"… Toss suddenly came to mind. Totally WoW.
