A Company Is Like a Lover

It's been almost a year since I quit my job..

Suddenly, it struck me — a company is like a lover.

The beginning is alike.
When you're heading out to meet someone, you spend the whole day in front of the mirror fixing your outfit and your hair,
and when you're looking for a job, you keep fiddling with every line of your resume until the keyboard is worn out — just like that.

And each side has its own standards.
Just as you don't meet just anyone in any way because you're lonely,
you don't hire or take just any job in a hurry either.
Some people chase stability — looks, skills, or salary and benefits,
others care mostly about personality and hobbies, or aptitude and vision.
Of course it'd be nice to have all of them,
but in the end similar kinds of people end up meeting.

I think it's because we instinctively know that meeting itself matters, but the continuity of the relationship is the real substance.

The moment of saying "let's start day one today" is similar too.
Half excitement, half fear, heart thumping all day in front of a lover,
it's no different with a company.

The small difference is
that from a lover you receive love and attention,
while from a company you receive a salary and trust.

This oddly parallel relationship keeps its shape even when parting.
When you both did your best, no regret is left behind — that part too.
Once the time of parting passes, both sides mature,
and they act more wisely with the next one.

Ah, come to think of it,
just as nothing is lamer than talking trash about an ex,
nothing looks as incompetent as badmouthing your former company — that too is the same.
