We walk life's path not to fill meaning but to fill the blanks

We came to Hawaii, so we said, let's take on the 100,000-step challenge

we all set the goal together, didn't we?

So why, in the middle of walking,

did I try to quit by looking for "the meaning"?

Maybe, when I was standing in the middle of the pain,

what I was vaguely searching for

wasn't the meaning of this path

but just a reason it was okay to quit.

Pretending everything had been wrong from the beginning,

that this path was never really mine,

denying the goal I'd set myself,

rationalizing: "I'm quitting because it's quit-worthy."

When an unusually hard day comes,

we suddenly strain to find some grand meaning,

and when we can't, we declare it meaningless -

"it was all wrong from the start," we make that excuse.

When you get lost on a long journey like this,

you have to keep going using the original decision as a lighthouse.

But we just stop dead, out of nowhere.

Ha Jung-woo and his friends pushed through countless agonies

and finished 100,000 steps with a smile.

- Ha Jung-woo, "The Walker"
