The biggest difference between modern philosophy and sociology lies in what they study and how they study it.

Modern philosophy mainly studies logical topics such as human beings, philosophical questions, epistemology, phenomenology, and theoretical inquiry. Representative figures in modern philosophy include Wilfrid Sellars, W.V. Quine, and Hans-Georg Gadamer.

By contrast, sociology focuses more on understanding and interpreting human behavior, culture, social relationships, virtue and irrationality, and the many things people believe. Representative figures mentioned here include Friedrich Nietzsche, Martin Heidegger, and Hannah Arendt.

In short, modern philosophy centers on logical and theoretical interpretation, while sociology places greater emphasis on interpreting culture, human action, social relationships, and worldviews.
