Resume — Not Like a Pamphlet, but Like a Whole Book

When writing a resume or a portfolio, people often say to write yourself as if you were planning or designing a service.
And this process is sometimes expressed by borrowing the term "personal branding."

At a glance you might say "ah, right, I see," but I disagree.

Expressing oneself like a pamphlet is, I think, one very stark — and very real, very everyday — example of the neoliberalism that began commodifying human beings.

I often hear the expression "using people," and even I've used it often myself.
You also hear plenty of "there's nowhere to go" and "there's no one to hire."

From that angle, I believe portfolios or resumes should be written like a whole book, not a pamphlet.
When I say this, nine out of ten people respond that it's unrealistic, abstract, or simply impossible.
