Data type = the size of the container that holds data = names for containers by purpose/size = char, int, double...etc
Memory = the place where data is stored
Variable = the act of assigning a name to a memory space that stores data
int val = 3 : Declaration = data type int comes
val = val_a + val_b : Usage = the data type is not needed again, just the variable name
